Purim

Goff (Tuckerton, New Jersey)  (I know Purim is not a commanded Feast to keep, but I was asked to speak on that day, so this is the message I gave.) Purim, also called the Feast of Lots, is a Biblical Jewish festival with many customs. It commemorates how ancient Jews were spared from massacre during the Persian Empire, when Esther (a Jew) became the queen of Persia, or ancient Iran (fifth century BCE) Esther convinced her husband the King of Persia to stop his anti-Semitic advisor Haman from annihilating the Jewish people.
