Bullocks and the Feast of Tabernacles
(Copyright) by BibleStudy.org (Farmington, Michigan) In Numbers 29:12-39 we find that for the seven days of the Feast of Tabernacles there is a daily sacrifice of bulls (the KJV calls them bullocks). Thirteen bullocks are offered on the first day (which is a high sabbath), twelve bullocks on the second day and so on, decreasing daily in number until seven bullocks on the seventh day for a total of seventy. On the eighth day, called the Last Great Day (a high sabbath), only one bullock is offered. God’s plan for mankind is symbolized by the Holy Days. The Feast of Tabernacles […]
The Feast and God’s People
(Copyright) by David Antion (Pasadena, California) In ancient times the feast was about rejoicing in the fear of the ETERNAL. It was called the feast of the harvest, or feast of Ingathering, Feast of Tabernacles (Tents), or simply,” the feast.” The harvest was complete. Food was plenteous. The work was done, and it was time to rejoice before the Eternal and give thanks to Him and learn to fear to disappoint Him. People in Israel took their tithes of the land—food, wine, and animals– to the temple and ate in the place that God chose to place His Name — the […]
The Feast of the Open Book
(Copyright) by Dwight Fleming (Oroville, California) The Feast of Tabernacles is a joyous time of year. It is a time of bounty and celebration for the blessings of God. After the harvest, families would travel together to Jerusalem to celebrate and thank God similar to what we do today at Thanksgiving. Because the seven-day celebration was connected to a harvest, it was also known as the Feast of Ingathering (See Exodus 23:16; 34:22). There is another name for the Feast of Tabernacles that has developed over the centuries. Near the end of Moses life, he gave a final instruction. Notice: “So Moses wrote […]
The Feast of the Nativity
(Copyright) by James McBride (United Kingdom) An intensely spiritual observance? A secular holiday? A pagan festival? Here’s some light on the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christmastime has etched itself into our calendar. For some it’s an intensely religious experience. To others a welcome mid-winter break. And an opportunity, for some, for a good knees-up! Overall, it has become an almost universal festival observed even by non-Christians. Most 21st century Western Christians, however, realize that the trappings of Christmas are transferred from ancient pre-Christian worship. It’s common knowledge in our skeptical age. Whether it’s the tree, or “the holly and the ivy” or […]

The Feast is Over…Now What?
by Staff (Charlotte, North Carolina) This year the Feast of Tabernacles was a great one—again. We have come home uplifted, encouraged, inspired, and corrected. We are filled with resolve to grow and overcome. We recognized God’s Spirit in both the ministry and the brethren. We heard expounded a great deal of God’s Word, and much of our fellowship centered on spiritual matters. During the Feast, we may even have committed ourselves to certain actions. We only wish everyone in the world could have heard what we heard and experienced what we have just experienced. We wonder how a Feast could be any […]
Sharing Our Lives at the Feast
by Mark Schindler (Charlotte, North Carolina) One of the great blessings that God gives us every year is the command to keep His holy days. As with all of His laws, they do much more for us than they do for Him. As a loving Father, He provides for our every need, and the holy days are a need that we do not fully realize that we have. The holy days give us a chance to spend extra time together. With other members of God’s church, we sing hymns, pray, and hear His Word expounded in a setting suitable for drawing us closer to each […]
