About Prayer
(Copyright) by Wayne Schatzle (West Chester, Ohio) Prayer to an unseen God is practiced in all the world’s religions. It is not an exact science and faiths have developed many ways to attempt to be heard by their god. I was brought up in a large Christian denomination that had many prayers published that a person could just read. In the early days prayers were said during worship in Latin. Even after nearly 50 years I can still remember some of those prayers I had said as an altar boy- but even to this day they are a bunch […]
My Trip to Kokomo
(Copyright) by Wayne Schatzle (West Chester, Ohio) In September we had the privilege to attend our first Vietnam Veteran’s Welcome Home Reunion. It has been held in Kokomo, Indiana, for 24 years. I heard about it last year and decided to go. Those types of festivals have gotten a bad name due to some rowdiness and drinking, and some people view Vietnam vets poorly anyway. It was very reminiscent of Woodstock, and it was as if everyone there knew each other. I myself am a Vietnam veteran, and like most of the rest of my fellow vets I have a […]
Is God’s Law Done Away?
(Part 1)(Copyright) by Wayne Schatzle (West Chester, Ohio) Picture this: a man is in court for grand theft, the judge is ready to pronounce judgment, then a stranger steps forward and pays the fines and agrees to suffer any other penalty due in place of the offender. The judge agrees and the convict is overwhelmed and grateful! He thanks this kind stranger and leaves the courtroom a free man. The man exclaims “I am so happy to be forgiven and can now steal all I want because of what the kind stranger did for me”. Everyone is now thinking of […]
Facts on Tithing
by Wayne Schatzle (West Chester, Ohio) I am bewildered by the tactics seen on television in fund raising efforts. If you watch much of “Christian” broadcasting there is a common teaching: (a) the law of God is done away; (b) no amount of good works will get you a place in heaven; (c) believers are to Tithe, which is to pay 10% of their income to the Christian effort. Any thinking person will find some confusion in the things preached. If the Law is done away- why does a person have to tithe? And if no good works earn you […]
Are You a Princess?
by Wayne Schatzle (West Chester, Ohio) Some time ago I read a book about the familiar nursery rhymes and childhood stories published by the Grimm brothers in the early 1800s. Apparently these were mostly German folk stories passed down through generations by word of mouth, and we can thank the Grimm brothers for recording them for posterity. More often than not each story has a prince on a journey, a princess in danger, and an evil individual bent on coming between them. The object of the book was to show that the point of these folklore stories was not […]
Are You in the True Church?
by Wayne Schatzle (West Chester, Ohio) Are you in the True Church that was founded by Jesus Christ? That is an important question to ask when you consider that Jesus warned there were false brethren and false ministers. Paul had a chilling warning to the church at Corinth:” There are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ’s. Marvel not! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light, therefore it is no great thing if HIS ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness”. That scripture should be a wakeup call to all of us. Consult […]
Endure to the End
by Wayne Schatzle (West Chester, Ohio) Like everyone else I enjoy the beautiful autumn leaves as they turn colors. People flock to the mountains to witness the sometime breathtaking event each year. What I have come to appreciate more than the autumn leaves is the late winter leaves. Why is that you ask? For some reason after a long winter of icy cold and forceful winds a very few leaves manage to hang on the trees. They are dry and shriveled, yet still clinging to their life source. Why do I like seeing them? Nature teaches us many lessons and, […]
