Rider with Bow?

(Copyright) by Dwight Fleming (Oroville, California)

In the Book of Revelation, chapter six, we find the famous “four horsemen of the Apocalypse.”  The first horse listed is a white horse.  Some may think this white horse is similar to the white horse that Christ is riding in Revelation 19 at His return to fight against the nations.

However, when you correlate the four horses with Christ’s explanation found in Matthew 24, then this white horse corresponds to the spread of false religion or a false message of some kind.  Notice Revelation 6:1-2:

“And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, ‘Come and see.’  And I saw and behold a white horse:  and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him:  and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.”

Some believe that this is picturing the spread of Christianity.  Yet, as Christ fore-warned in Matthew 24, this would actually be the spread of a false gospel or message concerning Christ.  This has been happening since the birth of God’s church nearly two thousand years ago.  Yet the Book of Revelation mostly has to do with the end-time which we are in now.

Notice that this White Horse Rider is carrying a BOW.  Why a bow?  How in the world would a bow be a means of spreading a false message?  Wouldn’t a trumpet be a better means of spreading a false message?  So, why is a bow depicted instead of a trumpet?

The thing to understand about the Book of Revelation is that it uses pictures or symbols to convey to its readers what would be in the future at the end-time prior to the return of Christ.  So, we must understand what these pictures are trying to tell us.

As you know, a bow was used to shoot arrows.  Can a bow of some kind be used to shoot messages or signals today?  Stop and think.  Have you ever seen a news vehicle at a location that was making a live report?

We had plenty of them here in Oroville a few years ago during the Spillway crisis that affected the Oroville Dam in northern California.  On top of these news vans was a satellite dish which linked them to a satellite in orbit which allowed them to communicate with the entire world.

And what is the shape of these dishes which shoot electronic signals to a satellite in orbit?  In order for them to work, they all have a BOW shape to them.

WOW!!!  Is the Book of Revelation ahead of its time or what???!!!

The Bible predicted thousands of years in advance a technology that we commonly use today for the spread of a false message or in modern parlance, FAKE NEWS.

And satellite TV has been widely used by many churches proclaiming that Jesus is the Christ yet will end up deceiving many.  Deceive them about what?  Deceive them about Christ’s return.  Even the churches of God are a little confused about the Timeline of Christ’s return. (Please read my article “No One Knows The Day” in Issue #54, February 12, 2022.)

And when did the first use of satellite TV come about?  Look up “satellite TV history” on the internet.  Basically, it started in the early 1970s and grew rapidly.  Could the spread of satellite TV be the opening of the First Seal of the Book of Revelation?

Something to consider which means that we are certainly in the end-time with more events predicted by the Book of Revelation yet to come.

As they say in TV lingo, “stay tuned!”

  • This is what people come up with leaning to their own understanding instead of paying careful attention to what the text actually says and comparing it with both the immediate context as well as the whole of Scripture. Both the horse and the bow are frequently associated with war in Scripture, especially in the Old Testament. Also, the book of Revelation is not necessarily exclusively or even mostly about the very end of this age, especially in the context of the four horsemen, and certain other portions of the book that cover events from the time of the first century to the second coming of Christ. And the last several chapters go beyond that time frame. The idea that the “bow” in Revelation 6:2 is depicting a satellite dish is preposterous. There’s a big difference between the shape of a bow to shoot arrows and any kind of satellite dish. In addition, they don’t “all have a BOW shape to them,” if any of them do. The ground station antennas for Starlink look more like round balls sitting on a pedestal. And the receiver dishes have a flat surface. Given the context, and the history and nature of the “whore of Babylon,” it’s obvious that the bow in Revelation 6:2 is a reference to instruments of war, as in other references to the bow in many other Scriptures. The first horseman: “And I looked, and behold, a white horse. He who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer” (Revelation 6:2). This corresponds with the prophecy in Matthew 24 that many would come in Jesus’ name, yet deceiving many. It would be a false Church, claiming to be Christian, but a militant, aggressive, persecuting Church, conquering and seeking to conquer the world. The Council of Nicaea laid the foundation for an ongoing persecution, overseen by the Roman Church, of true Christians, known largely by the name Quartodecimans at the time, because they kept the Passover on the fourteenth of Nisan [first month of the sacred calendar], as stipulated in Scripture, and as Christ had kept it. It also laid the groundwork for a campaign of conquest overseen by the Church of Rome that continues to this day, and that has subdued much of the world. “The popes… have fought with armies and navies in the name of Christ to build a huge kingdom which is very much of this world” (A Woman Rides the Beast, Dave Hunt, p. 71). Without a knowledge of the historical background of the Roman Catholic Church (and her daughter Churches), one would have little or no understanding of what the “white horse” symbolizes. It not only looks to the future, but has a history spanning at least 1700 years fulfilling the prophecy of the first horseman of Revelation 6. Of course this effort to conquer will continue and intensify as the end of this age draws near, as shown in chapters 13, 17-18, until this religious entity is obliterated from the face of the earth.

    • Christ was crucified on the afternoon of the 14th of Nisan with the Passover lambs. The Passover meal was on the late 14th as it turned into the 15th. Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread are the same Feast. Eze 45:21 In the first month, in the fourteenth day of the month, ye shall have the passover, a feast of seven days; unleavened bread shall be eaten. Passover is a Holy Day.
