Roles of Father, Son and Holy Spirit

Mathew 28:19. “Go you therefore and teach all nations.  BAPTIZING them in the NAME of the Father, and [the NAME of] the Son, and [the NAME of] the Holy Spirit!”
Obviously, I applied the word “Name” in brackets, when referring to the latter two.  Simply, because most of mainstream Christianity believes that that is the main “topic” of the above.  The names of the “three” beings in the God head.  It seems that, even though they believe the three mentioned are three individuals, they NEVER tell us what said names are.
While the Father’s name is given in Old Testament Scriptures, it is seldom used in basic Scriptural teachings.  This is True of both Sabbath and Sunday teachings.  I will come to his name as the article continues.
In a sense, the same is True of the Son of the Father.  Whom all know of as being Jesus, the son of Mary.  Few know of his name as it is recorded in Hebrew writings.  I will come to this also.
This leaves the “third party”.  The Holy Spirit.  And, lo and behold, the religionists cannot give a name to said Holy Spirit, because there is no name given in Scripture.   The Father?  Yes.  Actually, two names.  The Son?  Yes.  And he is also known by other names.  But the fact that Scripture shows that the Holy Spirit is NOT A THIRD PERSON.  It is not a personage at all.  Which will be shown as the Study continues.
What we will see shortly is, that the word “name” ought not to be in this verse at all.  For, if there is no name known, then how can we say that name is supposed to be there?  What we will see is that, according to the use of names in the Hebrew language, said real “names” are often used in order to make it to fulfill a “role”.  An example.  Aaron was the first high priest of the Old Covenant law called Moses law.  Yet, long after Aaron’s death, when his children had carried on, the “role” that Aaron played, is placed upon the priesthood.  It is called “Aaron’s priesthood”, even though he no longer heads it.
As well, the above, and many examples like it, should be what the reader sees, when he or she reads Mat. 28:19. “The ROLE of the Father.  The ROLE of the Son.  The ROLE of the Holy Spirit”.  For it is evident that all three play a great part in the plan of salvation for mankind.
Before starting with what are the “roles” of the three mentioned above, let’s go to the Old Testament, and look at what the original name of the Father was.  Before he adopted his second name.
Gen. 17:1. “When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said.  I am God Almighty…!”  This was and still is the Creator’s name, at the time it was given to him, after our Father’s Father first “begot him”.  In the Hebrew, God Almighty is written “El Shadday”.  We see the name “LORD”, but this was not in the original writings, but added by the Scribes over the centuries.  Now go to Ex. 6:3, where we see the REAL FIRST time that the name LORD/YHVH is applied to El Shadday.  “And I appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, by the name of [El Shadday].  BUT by my [new, second] name [YHVH/LORD] was I NOT KNOWN to them!”
Now, as we go into the New Testament writings, to find out what the words of Mat. 28:19 are really telling us, let’s keep in mind that, we will not find “any names given”.  Only “roles”.  As well, we will find that the main theme of said verse in identifying those roles, will be found in the word “Baptisms”.
John 6:44. “No man can come to me [the Son], except the Father, who has SENT me, DRAW him”.  The word “draw” can best be read in New Testament teachings as “call”. And the act of “calling” is exactly the “role” that the Father played, in introducing the coming of his Son to be, for a while, with mankind.
Now note what was it that “called” people in the first century to said Son.  Yes, it was through John the Baptist, that the Jews of the first century, learned of the coming of the Son.  And it was his BAPTISM of the total immersion of the body in water, that showed that those who heard his message, had accepted his message.  Take note that, “total emersion” baptism, is simply a “CALLING” into the message.  Much as all of Israel was “baptized [emerged] in the cloud”, when they crossed the Eastern arm of the Red Sea, and in so doing, became “priests”.  Going on.
John 14:6. “Jesus said to them.  I am the Way, the Truth, the Life.  No man comes to the FATHER but by me!”  What do these words mean?  Well, if the Father had called “multitudes” to come to his Son, then it obviously means of those multitudes, that the Son “chose” a few to be able to “come to the Father”.  It does say, “Many are called, but few are chosen”.
In the above two Scriptures, we have seen the “roles” of the Father and the Son.  The first to call the many, and the second to choose only a few.  Which then brings us to the “role” of the Holy Spirit.  But before explaining that, let’s just take a look at “what” the Holy Spirit really is.
John 14:23. “If a man loves me, he will keep my words.  And my Father will love him.  And WE will come and make our abode with him!”  This “abode” can be looked at in two ways.  For one, in the future, there will be a time when “New Jerusalem” will come down upon the earth.  And in so doing, the Father and the Son will “make their abode in it”.  Secondly, it can mean that, in the time that one is “chosen”, the Father and the Son can make their abode with them, by placing a part of their Spiritual selves to be with and within them.  The main thing is, “Where is the Holy Spirit”?  If it is a person?
John 15:26. “But when the Comforter [the Holy Spirit] is come, [which] I will SEND to you, from the Father, even the SPIRIT of Truth, which proceeds FROM the Father, [it] shall testify of me!”  Don’t let yourselves to continue to be deceived.  The words “it, he, him, and such” that is used in these accounts, when referring to the Comforter, were put there by translators, that believed the lie of the Holy Spirit being a person.  An individual.  We have already seen this as being an impossibility.  And there is more.
For, if the Comforter comes “FROM” the Father, and it is referring to a person, then “how many persons can the Holy Spirit be”?  It is no different than if the “Father” came to live his life in any individual.  Or the Son.  There is only one Father, and only one Son.  Thus, if there were only “one” Holy Spirit, then as mentioned, how can he be MANY individuals.
We have seen the “role” of the Father, as being the “calling” of peoples to his son.  The “baptism” being total immersion of the body in water.  But what of the son.  If his role is to “choose” a few for the Father, and the theme of Mat. 28:19 centers on Baptisms, then what sort of “baptism” was it that shows us what the “choosing” involves?
We see this at the time of Christ’s last Passover meal.  And said baptism was when he took a pan of water, and went to each of the disciples, and “immersed their feet” in water.  For, it was this “immersion” of the feet, that would later be one of the reasons for the future baptism of the Holy Spirit.  But to understand what it really means, when Christ “washed” their feet, let’s go back to the Old Testament, and see what happened, that made “priests” of the Levites.  Especially, that of the high priesthood of Aaron and his sons.
Lev. 8:6. “And Moses brought Aaron and his sons and WASHED them with water!”  This “washed” in Hebrew is #7364, and it means to “LAVE [put in water] the WHOLE of a PART of a thing”.  In this case, said “washing” was the “whole” of the body.  Just as John’s calling baptism was the immersing of the “whole” body.  It needs to be kept in mind that, in this verse above, said “immersing” was of the whole body.  For, this was before Aaron and his sons could even begin their priesthood works.  Even then, said first works were limited to only those duties in the court before the Tabernacle of Meeting.
Now note the words of Ex. 40:31-32.  “And Moses, and Aaron and his sons WASHED their hands and feet…Whenever they went into the tent [Holy Place] …they WASHED.”  Even though Aaron and his sons (and all Levites) had been washed/baptized in water, they could only do the work of the called.  That being the works of the court of the Temple.  But it took the “choosing” immersion of the feet, before they could further their works within the Temple itself.  In which room the “chosen” can do their duties.
In the New Testament, the “many” (all Levites) had their bodies totally immersed in water.  Only the “few” had their feet totally immersed in water.  But “neither the total immersion of the body, or of the feet”, gave the Holy Spirit to those partaking of said baptisms.  Except, with the “chosen”, the Holy Spirit was to be “with them”.  This is what it meant when it tells us “Jesus breathed on them and said.  Receive the Holy Spirit”.  They received it “outwardly”.  It was with them, but not in them.
In the outer room of the Tabernacle, the Holy Place, there was a candlestick.  Now, only those disciples that had their feet washed, and the Holy Spirit placed “with them” were allowed to be of the work of the Holy Place.  Which basically centered on the old covenant law of Moses.  But Moses law has no Spiritual qualities.  One does not have the Holy Spirit enter into them, simply by obeying Moses.  There is more required before the “chosen” can enter into the inner room, the Holy of Holies.  Where the Old Covenant Law of the Ten Commandments (a law of faith, as to the law of works of the outer room) was hidden away in the Ark.
Only one group of chosen disciples were allowed to enter into the Holy of Holies.  That being for those that, for a while had the Holy Spirit WITH them, to have the Holy Spirit be placed WITHIN them.  Meaning, the “ROLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT”, is to allow entrance into the ONLY room in which there is Eternal Life promised.  And, it is in that room, into which the Son of Man entered after his resurrection.  The room in which is the throne (Mercy Seat), upon which he will sit.  In other words, those with the Holy Spirit within them will become the “Sons of God”.  Those left in the Holy Place, with the Holy Spirit “with” them are still “sons of God in waiting”.
Mat. 28:19. “Three ROLES, three BAPTISMS”.  Only TWO beings/persons”.

The qualification for receiving the Holy Spirit is made clear in these verses. We are to Love and follow Jesus. We need the help of the Holy Spirit to overcome so we can be Sons of God. So, the part about the Sons of God in waiting does not seem to fit.

John 14:23-26 (NIV) 23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me. 25 “All this I have spoken while still with you. 26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

Ray Daly’s article, “Roles of Father, Son and Holy Spirit” was very informative up to a point and that about the middle of the article where he writes, “Thus, if there were only “one” Holy Spirit, then as mentioned, how can he be MANY individuals”. After that point and to end of article there seems to be some concepts that could well be of a personal opinion even though he uses scripture to back up his “opinion”.

It appears that Acts 2:38 makes it clear that to receive the Holy Spirit is (as being in them), by baptism being fully emersed in water. Acts 2:38 (KJV) Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Ray does write, “In other words, those with the holy spirit within them will become the ‘Sons of God’”. I can agree with that. Romans 8:9 (KJV) But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

As to his statement of “sons in waiting”, I might think of that as the “many called” would be those having the Holy Spirit with them (needed to be called) but not in them, waiting at a future time to be sons of God in the day they will respond to God, as opposed to having God’s spirit in them to those who were called and chosen and remained faithful to that calling.

I’m not sure that many, have thought about it much of what that calling now is to or for. It cannot be just to receive salvation, otherwise the many would totally lose out on salvation and be condemned to death forever since many are called now but few are chosen. The calling now is to be the first fruits of the sons of God, with a second calling to be sons of God as well for the many at another time.

So, when the scriptures say, “many shall be called but few chosen”, are the many then condemned to eternal death because they in one way or another become disinterested, disillusioned, concerned with the things of this world, and therefore could not be chosen?

Called and chosen now for what other purpose other than just getting “saved”? Well, read it in Revelation 20:6 (KJV) Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

So, to me those many yet to be called to and for salvation could well be thought of as “sons in waiting”. After all, God’s intention is to have all men and (women) to be His sons and daughters. Genesis 1:27 (KJV) So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. John 3:17 (KJV) For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 1 Timothy 2:3-6 (KJV) For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. Ezekiel 18:32 (KJV) For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye. Ezekiel 33:11 “Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live….”

As for the many who have been called and left their calling, are they now forever lost? Many have even been in God’s church and left. I mean left the faith once delivered. Went back to old doctrines of “mainstream Christianity”. The devil deceived them into believing certain doctrines to be “new understanding”, but all it was is “old wine” in new “wine skins” sold as the purest of wine.

I believe, unless they gave up on God altogether, they are guilty of what Esau did by selling his physical birthright for but a bowl of perhaps some really tasty soup. Esau didn’t value his birthright, so he sold it for mere instant gratification not considering his profound actions and deeply regretted it later. But it was too late. Like if you sold me your fancied 1958 white-pink interior ford galaxy convertible in priceless shape. You realized later what a valuable thing you had and now you come to me and want to buy it back and I say, “you sold it to me, sorry it’s not for sale”!

So, to, as Esau did, they lost their “spiritual” birthright, however they did worse than Esau, at least he sold his and got something for it. These people just gave their birthright away for nothing, thinking it wasn’t worth anything. Perhaps they sat in Sabbath meetings being bored waiting for a power outage, bored to death listening to a minister preaching about the kingdom to come and what part they would play (work) in it with Christ. Besides, what’s all the excitement about being a king and priest with Jesus anyway? Revelation 1:6 (KJV) And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

I’m sure God filled the void calling others to take their place, and you may be one of them, perhaps.  Again, that birthright is for being an associate “king and priest” with Christ in His kingdom to come. Let us not discard that calling as though it was some kind of piece of trash. Next to eternal life, that calling is priceless, so, let us not give it away to someone else as many did.

“Sons in waiting”, for all those yet to be called to eternal life only, could be a way of looking at it.
